The Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP) reminds you: Benefits are coming!

The Canada Dental Care Program (CDCP) is now available to eligible seniors, children under 18, and adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate. It will continue through 2025. Here are some things you need to know about the CDCP.

Do you qualify

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all 4 of these requirements:

1.You don’t have access to dental insurance 2.You and your spouse/common-law-partner (if applicable) must have filed your tax returns in Canada so that your family income can be assessed for the previous year 3.Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000 4.You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes You need to meet all the eligibility criteria to qualify for the CDCP.

When to apply

The Canada Dental Care Program (CDCP) is opening in phases. Make sure you meet all 4 eligibility requirements before applying. Check the timeline below to find out when you can apply.

  1. 65 years or older: Now
  2. Adults with a valid 2023 Federal Disability Tax Credit certificate: Now (beginning June 27, 2024)
  3. Children under 18 years old: Now (beginning June 27, 2024)
  4. All remaining eligible residents (not in any of the above groups): 2025

Apply online

Do not submit multiple applications

Apply for a child. When applying for a child, submit only one application that includes all children under 18 years of age. Only one parent or guardian can apply on behalf of a child Do not reapply. If you are already enrolled in CDCP, you do not need to reapply or contact Service Canada unless your dental coverage rights have changed. Your current level of coverage will remain the same until June 30, 2025

Covered Services

The Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP) will help pay for part of the cost of a variety of oral health services.

Note: Certain services and additional treatments beyond established frequency limits will require prior authorization from the CDCP. This means your provider will recommend the treatment and the CDCP will assess whether the treatment is covered. You must get prior approval before you can receive the treatment. This decision will take into account your oral health history and medical conditions. Services and additional treatments requiring prior approval will be available in November 2024.

Diagnostic and preventive services

These services are designed to check your oral health, keep your teeth, gums and mouth healthy, prevent cavities and gum disease, and detect oral diseases (such as cancer) early. CDCP covers:

Dental exams, including comprehensive exams, routine exams, specific exams and emergency exams X-rays Cleanings (scaling) Fluoride applications Sealants

Basic Services

Restorative Services These services treat decayed and broken teeth. CDCP covers:

Permanent fillings Temporary fillings Pain control for diseased teeth Other tooth decay treatments

Endodontic Services These services treat severely decayed, infected, or broken teeth. CDCP covers:

Root canal treatment Pulpotomy (the first step in root canal treatment) Procedures to reduce infection and relieve pain Re-treatment of previously completed root canals (prior authorization required)

Periodontal Services These services treat the area around the tooth, including the gums and bone. CDCP covers:

Cleaning below the gum line Treatment of abscesses Bonding loose teeth (prior authorization required) Post-operative evaluation (prior authorization required) Non-surgical treatment of gum disease

Main Services

Restoration Services These services restore teeth when they are too damaged to be fixed with basic fillings. CDCP covers:

Posts and post removals Repairing crowns and re-bonding crowns and posts Crowns (pre-authorization required) Cores (supporting crowns) (pre-authorization required) Crown posts (pre-authorization required) Removable denture restoration services These services replace missing teeth. CDCP covers:

Full dentures, including standard and temporary dentures Denture restorations, relinings, and rebases Placing linings in dentures to condition oral tissues (for comfort and healing) Completing immediate dentures and overdentures (pre-authorization required) Partial dentures (pre-authorization required) Oral Surgery These services remove teeth or tumors and repair other problems in the mouth and jaw that require surgery. CDCP covers:

Tooth and root removal Surgical removal of tumors and cysts Surgical incisions, including drainage Treatment of jaw fractures

Orthodontic Services

These are not currently available. In 2025, we will add orthodontic services to the CDCP. These services will only be covered if they are medically necessary and meet strict criteria. These services will have a maximum spending limit.
